AFTER HAVING SUCCESSFULLY lobbied to have all major Australian ISPs to block access to selected piracy sites back in December 2016 (specifically The Pirate Bay, Torrentz, TorrentHound, IsoHunt and SolarMovie), Foxtel and other local movie and TV rightsholders have been adding dozens of additional sites to their list of claimed infringers.

But as of August, the pay TV company has taken aim at an even bigger swathe of sites, targeting another 128 domains it says are linked to piracy. Some of the sites in the crosshairs include Putlocker, Watch TV Series, 1337x, CartoonHD, YesMovies, Watch Episodes and many more, including secondary mirrors and proxies of those key sites.

The timing of this most recent court hearing lines up quite neatly with Foxtel’s airing of the latest season of Game of Thrones, a show the presiding judge Justice Burley confesses to be a fan of.

A good portion of the targeted domains are streaming sites, rather than the more traditional torrent aggregators. Justice Burley has described the somewhat futile attempts at blocking these sites along with their affiliated domains as something like “whack-a-mole”.
