Xiaomi Yeelight

WHILE MOST RGB Wi-Fi-connected smart bulbs cost over $50, the Xiaomi Yeelight is just $25. There is also a brightness-adjustable white version that can be picked up for around $15. The bulbs connect directly to your Wi-Fi network and don’t need a hub. The bulb uses the standard E27 screw fitting, and there are no bayonet options available. It’s rated at 9W and outputs 600 lumens — around the same as a 60W incandescent. The colour temperature is adjustable from 1,700–6,500K, while the RGB side can handle 16 million different colours. The bulb is rated for a 25,000-hour operating life — or around 11 years of normal use. The Yeelight uses the Xiaomi Smart Home app, available on Android or iOS. It can be a little fiddly to get set up and isn’t quite as slick as the competition, but works quite well. While the app itself does not have a huge amount of control automation built in, you can loop in services such as IFTTT and Amazon Alexa for smarter options.
