SMART PLUGS (AND other home automation devices) make it easy to turn appliances on and off, but are hard to trigger from the real world, rather than online. Working with their smart plugs (and security cameras), the D-Link DCH-S150 brings motion detection in an easy to use package. The unit plugs into a wall socket directly, though an extension cable allows easy repositioning. It connects directly to your Wi-Fi network, and has a WPS button to make setup easy. The DCH-S150 can be used to trigger smart plugs directly, but can also send push notifications to your smartphone when motion is detected. It also makes it easy to expand automation with integration with IFTTT. For example, it could be set up to turn on your smart lights when motion is detected.

You need to shop around fairly hard to find the DCH-S150 for $50, and it’s $80 if bought directly from D-Link. There is also a starter kit (DCH-109K) that includes the motion sensor and two smart plugs for $150.
