Uniden app cam Solo
PORTABLE CAMERA FOR HOME OR AWAY.
UNIDEN’S CAMERA CERTAINLY has portability on its side. This fist-sized security cam snaps neatly onto a magnetised base, which is strong enough to be hung upside down without fear of the camera falling off. Or you can screw the Cam Solo to a threaded base which latches onto a strap, which can then be mounted to a tree or post — and easily relocated should you need — even under pouring rain, as it’s IP65 rated. After a painless setup process, you have the options of a live feed to the camera via your smartphone on Wi-Fi or mobile data, checking in as you wish, or being notified when something crosses its path. Stick a 64GB SD card in it and the cam will automatically record movement should anything come within 10 metres of the 130° viewing angle. Nighttime capabilities are admirable, too. A mic and speaker combo gives you the power to talk to the person on the other end — useful if you mount this near your front door. However, we experienced a weird feedback loop that made one person complain that it sounded like they were “being screamed at by bats”, negated by us turning the talk function on and off. Not an ideal solution, but it’s the only quirk in a system which is otherwise reliable, if a little unexciting. The front end of the app is utilitarian, and the camera’s powered by four CR123A batteries, which are around $6 each. Uniden advertises that the camera’s good for 180 days of standby, or up to 840 minutes of recording. Battery maintenance is your only ongoing cost, as there’s no cloud storage service, or hard wiring to mains. A great all-rounder, and the App Cam can be paired with up to three other identical devices.
