The Moon will get its first 4G setup in 2019, thanks to Vodafone Germany and Nokia. The Moon’s data network will be used to support Berlin-based space exploration company PT-Scientists in studying the satellite’s surface via two lunar rovers that car manufacturer Audi is producing. Nokia Bell Labs will create a space-grade “ultra compact network” for Vodafone’s base station that won’t weigh more than “a bag of sugar”, with the mission scheduled to launch in 2019 from Cape Canaveral, Florida, on a SpaceX Falcon 9.
