FU­TURE OF JA­PANESE GI­ANT’S MO­BILE DIVI­SION IN DOUBT?

The lat­est earn­ing re­port for Sony’s mo­bile divi­sion of­fered up some grim in­sights into the fad­ing star in the global phone mar­ket. While Q1 of 2017 saw the com­pany shift 3.4 mil­lion units, sales in the same quar­ter of 2018 were down to 2 mil­lion, a de­cline of over 40% year-on-year. While the rest of the busi­ness (par­tic­u­larly the gam­ing arena) re­mains strong, this may spell the end for Sony’s mo­bile as­pi­ra­tions.
