SELECT YOUR COLOURS

CHOOSE YOUR SAMPLE SIZE AND FIND THE PERFECT COLOUR.

-

01 PICK A COLOUR

Start by selecting the Color Picker from the left-hand toolbar and just practise selecting specific hues and seeing how they look. Click the Foreground swatch on the left below the toolbar (the square on the top) to edit your colour a little further.

03 A BIGGER SAMPLE

Should you wish to sample from an even bigger pool when it comes to colour, you can use the 5x5 sample option, displayed along with bottom next to the 3x3 one. This can dull your hue, so be prepared to get a washed-out shade.

02 AVERAGE 3X3 SAMPLE

It can be difficult to pick a specific hue if you’re working with a full-resolution image. To counter this problem, Elements offers you a 3x3 Average sample option so that you can pick not quite an exact shade, but one based on the colours around it.

04 SAMPLE ALL LAYERS

Selecting colours can be useful in any project, whether you’re creating a complicated digital painting or applying the shadows on a photomanipulation of many layers. To help, click on either the All Layers or Current Layer options at the bottom of Elements.
