$3000 incentive for overcoming work injuries
WORKERS who have returned to work after suffering a workplace injury can win a $3000 prize for their efforts and determination through WorkCover SA’s Recovery and Return to Work Awards.
The awards honour the achievements of people who have overcome their injuries to again contribute to their workplace as well as people and organisations that helped them to succeed.
Nominations in eight categories for the 2011 awards close on Friday, May 13. Categories include achievement awards for workers and excellence awards for employers, case managers and rehabilitation co-ordinators.
Last year’s Worker Achievement Award winner, manufacturing supervisor David Goold, was honoured for his determination to return to work after being injured while working on a pallet machine.
His leg was dragged into the trolley loader and severely lacerated from his hip to his hamstring.
He was trapped for two hours before being found by a co-worker and taken to a hospital two hours away.
‘‘I enjoy my job and wanted to get back to work as quickly as possible to show my wife and kids I was going to be OK,’’ he says.
