A head start in hospitality
STUDENTS at Site Academy get a head start in their careers because of its industry-based, employmentfocused and intensive hospitality programs.
They graduate with resumes that can accelerate their career aspirations.
One student, Kyall Zechner, enrolled in Site Academy’s Certificate IV in Hospitality program after finishing school at Golden Grove High School.
Completing work experience as a food and beverage attendant at Adelaide Entertainment Centre and as functions set-up at Sfera’s Park Suites and Convention Centre, Kyall had knowledge and experience in the event sector of hospitality.
He completed the course and gained full-time work at Staging Connections as a trainee event staging manager at the Hilton, Adelaide. He was transferred to the Hyatt Regency, Adelaide, where he was promoted to assistant event staging manager.
‘‘Without experience, vast industry knowledge and connections that Site Academy has exposed me to, I wouldn’t be where I am in the event industry today,’’ he says.
Fellow student Janine Polkinghorn has built her career with the Oaks Hotel Group, starting as guest service agent at Oaks Liberty Towers in Adelaide. She worked her way up to the Oaks Head Office at the Sunshine Coast, working in the roles of online distributor then executive assistant to the general manager of operations.
She now works as an executive assistant to the chief executive of Oaks Festival Towers and Oaks Casino Towers in Brisbane.
Students often choose to complete their industry placement in Adelaide but many also seek to use it as an opportunity to travel interstate and overseas.
These include Vanessa Urban, who graduated from Kildare College and completed the Advanced Diploma of Hospitality at Site Academy.
She worked in NSW then secured permanent work as a guest service agent at The Majestic Old Lion and Tynte Street Apartments.
Site Academy is taking applications for its June intake of the Certificate IV in Hospitality and Advanced Diploma of Hospitality programs.
