NET­WORK­ING in­volves more than at­tend­ing cock­tail par­ties and sem­i­nars to build a list of use­ful con­tacts, ex­perts say.

The act of meet­ing new peo­ple in the hope that they can bring new busi­ness, in­for­ma­tion or other ben­e­fits to a worker of­ten is mis­tak­enly lim­ited to at­tend­ing a so­cial func­tion and col­lect­ing busi­ness cards.

But work­ers can de­velop their net­works through other means and need to main­tain their re­la­tion­ships for long-last­ing ben­e­fits.
