More seek train­ing in quest for work

MORE peo­ple are tak­ing up ap­pren­tice­ships and traineeships as they be­come in­creas­ingly aware of the need for skills in ob­tain­ing work, the Fed­eral Gov­ern­ment says.

Skills, Jobs and Work­place Min­is­ter Chris Evans says a 6.3 per cent in­crease in the num­ber of Aus­tralians in ap­pren­tice­ships and traineeships in the year to De­cem­ber 31, 2010, shows that in­vest­ment in train­ing is con­tin­u­ing to pro­vide re­sults for thou­sands of peo­ple.

‘‘The Gov­ern­ment is fo­cused on pro­vid­ing peo­ple with the se­cu­rity and dig­nity that comes from work,’’ he says. ‘‘Boost­ing com­ple­tion rates is fun­da­men­tal to en­sur­ing more Aus­tralians get the skills they need to take part in the work­force.’’
