Employers face a nervous few months
EMPLOYERS are less optimistic about hiring new staff in the next three months, new research reveals. The Manpower Employment Outlook Survey finds 26 per cent of companies expect to hire compared with 29 per cent in the past survey in March.
Managing director Lincoln Crawley says the national employment market is being held back by the ‘‘nervousness of several Australian industries’’. ‘‘The confidence seen in the early stages of the recovery has reverted to uneasiness for employers in some sectors,’’ he says.
More positive hiring intentions are in the mining, construction, services, transport, finance, insurance and real estate sectors.
