Chance for a new start

TAFE student

THE time was right for Elizabeth Hull, 44, to start her business, marketing and advertising studies mid-year last year.

Having gone through a divorce and retrenchment, she says she had the chance to question her career direction and reinvent herself.

She researched her study options and decided on three TAFE SA Certificate IV courses in business, marketing and advertising to start her pathway to obtaining a Diploma and Advanced Diploma and perhaps a Bachelor degree qualification in the three subjects.

She says it made sense to start her study in the next intake, which was semester two in 2011.

‘‘ No time like the present to jump in and take the opportunity while it’s there, once I made up my mind to go forward and realised what I wanted to do,’’ she says.

‘‘ Because the workforce and marketplace is competitive, I wanted to get on with it quickly.’’

She is studying full time until she completes the three diplomas, when she will most likely look for work and continue part-time study to reach her education goal.

Her qualification will support her work history in the field, which includes customer services, sales, project and management roles.

She has enjoyed TAFE’S hands-on and practical approach to learning.

‘‘ It’s been quite a while since I studied at school and I thought the environment here at TAFE would suit my learning well,’’ she says.
