Name: Mark Edmunds Age: 33 Former position: Car salesman Job sought: Apprentice chef. I left school for a pastry apprenticeship. I always wanted to be a chef but I had a boss who was a bit crazy and he scared the living hell out of me. It got me out of the kitchen. One of the other careers I wanted to pursue was an automotive trade. But all the time I was thinking I missed my calling, I should have been a chef. I spent every minute in markets or having ‘‘guinea pigs’’ over for food parties. I applied for Masterchef. I didn’t get on to the show but two months later I just thought ‘‘what am I doing?’’. I quit my $60,000-a-year job and gave my resume to all the top restaurants. I got an apprenticeship at The French Brasserie. There are great opportunities for people, like the Cook For Your Career Competition.
