FOUR in 10 university students are considering further study rather than trying to break straight into the jobs market.

The Co-op Future Leaders Index, which surveyed more than 2000 uni students, also found seven in 10 are planning a postgraduate or masters course in the future to help better their employment opportunities.

Co-op spokesman Greg Smith says: ‘‘ The results highlight the concern from our future leaders about the effect of the economic downturn on job prospects. A substantial number are considering starting their own business – 40 per cent to be precise – suggesting an entrepreneurial determination from this generation to make their own success.’’
