Rivalry sharpens prices

The Advertiser - Motoring - - SHOWROOM - RICHARD BLACKBURN

COMPETITION sharpens the pencils and the recent arrivals of new pick-ups and family four-wheel-drives have prompted rivals with older models to cut prices. the deal includes free alloy wheels and reversing camera. Mitsubishi is also discounting the Triton GLS double cab, which is $39,990 drive-away, a saving of roughly $5000.

A good, honest workhorse, the Triton is backed by Mitsubishi’s fiveyear/100,000km warranty.

It may not have the driving manners or up-market interior of a Ranger, but it does the job for thousands less.

Meanwhile, the Challenger 4WD remains at $33,990, roughly $12,000 off the normal price — and thousands cheaper than Ford’s new Everest and Toyota’s new Fortuner. market, outselling similar models from more established car brands such as Holden and Mitsubishi.

With the Ford Everest and Toyota Fortuner now invading its turf, Isuzu is fighting back with a “Great Aussie Road Trip Sale” that brings the top-spec MU-X 4WD down to $50,990 drive-away, roughly $7000 off the regular price.

The MU-X may be based on agricultural underpinnings but it has plenty of goodies you won’t find in similarly priced models from its latest rivals.

Standard features include leather-appointed seats, satnav and 17-inch alloys.

For buyers who want seven seats but don’t need off-road ability, the MU-X 2WD range starts at $36,990 drive-away for the diesel auto, about $7000 off full price. Sharing its underpinnings with the MU-X, the Colorado hasn’t been as successful in the showroom, achieving fewer than half the sales of the Isuzu.

That translates into even sharper pricing for the Holden. The top-spec LTZ is $47,990 drive-away, about $7500 off the normal price, with free servicing until 2020.

The Holden gets leatherappointed seats, 18-inch alloys, rear-view camera, side steps and climate control aircon.

If the LTZ is a bit rich for the budget, the LT Colorado is $43,990 drive-away, about $8000 off full price, with the same five years of free servicing.

There is also discounting on the Colorado ute. The LS 4WD Crew Cab manual is $36,990 drive-away. Auto adds $1000.
