Adel a i d e b u i l d e r David Cheney is taking a brief hiatus from his mansion building to ride a motorbike through the Himalayas.

Mr Cheney, who is known to build some of the biggest and best houses around town, is leading a group of 20 people who depart this weekend for the 21-day ride.

Mr Cheney says the group will ride 1950s-style Royal Enfield motorcycles and the trip is bound to be an adventure.

‘‘We are riding to Delhi where the temperatures have been as high as 48C,’’ he says.

‘‘We have been told that in some parts there have been elephants on the road.

‘‘We will also be riding on the highest trafficable road in the world.’’

The group of 18 men and two women includes Toop & Toop managing director Anthony Toop.

The group will make donations to Indian orphanages during their travels.

Brock Harcourts managing director Michael Brock says he experienced the biggest coincidence in his 37-year real estate career at a property he was auctioning at Beaumont last Saturday.

Mr Brock says the Beaumont connection at the auction of the John Cleland Drive home was uncanny.

‘‘We had three registered bidders, who all lived in Beaumont,’’ he says.

‘‘The two who were fighting it out at the end not only both lived in Beaumont but they lived in the same street – they knew each other. They were both bidding for their kids so that they could also live in Beaumont.’’

Mr Brock says the property ended up fetching $20,000 to $30,000 above the reserve.

‘‘It was extraordinary – the biggest coincidence that I’ve seen in 37 years in real estate,’’ he says.

To cap it off, Mr Brock lived a t Beaumont f or 1 5 years himself.

Joey Hansen, the bass guitarist for ARIA Award winning Aussie rockers Grinspoon, was spotted in South Australia recently with Alex Ouwens from Brock Harcourts.

Joey could not believe the value of coastal properties on Kangaroo Island.

Apparently he says he is very keen to take a visit south when Grinspoon comes to Adelaide during its September tour.

Compared with his home town of Coffs Harbour, Joey supposedly has said, KI’s pristine coast and value for money are ‘‘ bloody brilliant’’.

The Cleland Drive, Beaumont, property that was full of surprises for auctioneer Michael Brock.
