A huge block and lush, peaceful surrounds make for a perfect family home, writes
ALARGE colonial-style house on a generous block ended Dave and Kerry Pike’s three-year search for a family home 15 years ago. Having provided a perfect environment for raising their children, the beautiful home is on the market again. ‘‘We first saw the sign on this one after we spent three years looking for a home,’’ Mr Pike says.
‘‘We said, ‘Why not? Let’s pull over and have look at it’.
‘‘We had a look the next day and it was just negotiating from there on. ‘‘It’s been a good family home.’’ Set on a huge block – almost an acre (4000sq m) – the house has four bedrooms and four bathrooms as well as formal dining and living areas.
The spacious rooms have been finished in a traditional colonial style to match the architecture of the house.
The big formal lounge is accented by a large wooden fireplace and ornate cornices. The formal dining room is equally spacious but Mr Pike says the home cinema is a family favourite.
‘‘We probably spent the bulk of our time in there. It’s got underfloor heating for winter.’’
A large bay window in the cinema provides the best views of the large landscaped garden that surrounds the home.
‘‘The garden takes a little bit of maintenance but I enjoy it,’’ Mr Pike says. ‘‘If you keep on top of it, it’s not a huge amount of work.’’
The huge block has ample room for the inground swimming pool, poolside gym, sauna, toolshed, carport and detached two-car garage – which is airconditioned and could be used as a workshop for a car enthusiast.
The property also has plenty of off-street parking from its three street frontages.
There is a large under-cover alfresco dining area overlooking the pool and the house has fully ducted reverse-cycle airconditioning.
The large block also means there is potential to extend the home pending council approval.
