Ease away your cares
A family retreat offers calming views, writes Sarah Daly.
GULLY views and a relaxing outdoor space transform a Para Hills home into a calming retreat. For vendor Carol-Anne Sim, creating a haven was all about bringing the outside in and using big windows to help maximise the view.
‘‘The home is really light and airy and I love having windows that give you a view of all the open space,’’ Ms Sim says.
‘‘Wherever you go in the house, you’re looking out to trees.
‘‘The two major bedrooms have a view of the gully and the dining room and kitchen look out to the veranda and garden beds, which are quite tropical.’’
The open-plan dining and kitchen space features an island bench that can be used for food preparation, as a breakfast bar, or a spot to do some desk work.
‘‘It’s quite a large kitchen and although it’s definitely a home you can move into and not change a thing, you also have the opportunity to renovate to suit your taste, and this could include the kitchen,’’ Ms Sim says.
The bedrooms are at the back of the home.
Ms Sim says although the house is on a main road, you can still enjoy the peace and quiet.
‘‘It’s an interesting little pocket of Para Hills and although it is on a main road, it’s a really quiet spot,’’ she says.
The property has a lot of depth so the bedrooms and the outdoor space at the back of the home are not impacted by noise from the road.
‘‘And the outdoor area is completely fenced off, so when you have the garage door closed it’s completely secure,’’ Ms Sim says.
‘‘You can sit out there and feel like you’re in a whole different world.
‘‘The space has that lovely, country feel. It’s very peaceful.’’
