Studio feel in a party house

A seaside property is a great entertainer and offers plenty of privacy, writes Tom Bowden.

FOR the past 24 years, vendors Jaki and Alex Jeffers have poured their heart and souls into an Aldinga Beach property. Ms Jeffers says the home is a great entertainer, having hosted every major celebration their family has had.

‘‘We’ve held two of our children’s 40ths, my husband’s 50th, 60th and 70th birthdays a few years ago, two weddings and an engagement,’’ Ms Jeffers says. ‘‘Every time there’s the Tour Down Under, we have a party.

‘‘That’s a big thing to do and our friends always ring up and want to attend but they’ll be a bit disappointed this year, I guess.

‘‘We’ve got 13 grandchildren so there’s always something happening and I just love to entertain.’’

The Jeffers owned a shack at Aldinga Beach and used to camp on the beach under the home at 227 Lower Esplanade.

When it came on the market, they bought it.

They renovated the home, giving it a balcony and knocked walls out to give it a studio feel and create a parents’ retreat.

The kitchen features a butler’s pantry, which maximises storage space, and the bathroom has a claw-footed bath, a large window and frameless shower screen.

The house has solid timber flooring upstairs, floating floors downstairs and there is carpet in one of the three bedrooms.

The home is set on 2000sq m of lowmaintenance garden.

‘‘I really enjoy the privacy of it and I love that when you walk up the stairs you could be on a cruise ship because you can see the sea; it’s very calming,’’ Ms Jeffers says.

‘‘I think it would suit anybody – a family, a younger person wanting to run a B&B.

‘‘There are lots of things you can do with that house if you’re younger.’’

She says the view is second to none and the home’s strongest feature.

‘‘We’ve had people stay from Sydney and they’ve raved about it,’’ Ms Jeffers says.

‘‘People stayed with us who have a beach house in the Canary Islands and they raved about it.

‘‘It’s just the safest, most beautiful beach around and we never went on holiday much.’’

Ms Jeffers says the couple is looking to move closer to the city and buy a larger block.

‘‘I’ll miss looking at the sea and it’s been a huge part of our family’s lives,’’ she says. ‘‘We’ll miss it very much.’’ Agent: Cliff Hawkins Pty Ltd Kingscote, ph 8553 2346, Connie Foyle 8553 2346.
