Ideal for active family
A TOORAK Gardens villa was the perfect place to raise a young family, vendor Amanda White says. With two young daughters, Ms White bought the Watson Ave home, which boasts enough space to rear active girls, almost 20 years ago.
‘‘We were only the third owners of the home. There was the original owner and then an elderly couple and then it was us so it doesn’t shift very much,’’ Ms White says.
Comprising four double bedrooms, the master suite is located in an extended upper level, offering tree-top views over the private rear grounds, an ensuite, wardrobe and walk-in dressing room.
The extended upper level was part of a major renovation project, which included an upgraded family room, updated bathrooms, a new outdoor entertaining area and pool, undertaken by Ms White.
‘‘We didn’t want to touch any of the originals. We left them intact. We made sure that everything we did was absolute top quality,’’ Ms White says.
‘‘I always said I wouldn’t have a swimming pool if it didn’t have a cover over it.
‘‘That way the girls could go in it all year round and we didn’t have to worry about burns.’’
There is enough room for a tennis court outside but that was never on Ms White’s radar.
‘‘My girls are volleyballers so we put in a net for them,’’ she says.
A formal dining room is located at the centre of the home and is a focal point, Ms White says. It has a leadlight featured vestibule and decorative plasterwork.
The caterers’ kitchen has stainless-steel appliances, integrated fridge and freezer, two ovens and a granite island bench. A spacious family room with parquet flooring overlooks the rear grounds, which Ms White describes as large but manageable and in an excellent location for young families.
‘‘I’m from the area. I haven’t moved far from where I grew up. I’m a Loreto girl and it’s a great neighbourhood,’’ she says.
‘‘It’s a lovely tree-lined street and we’ve got beautiful elm trees that we light up at night. It’s a real attraction.’’
