Entertain with plenty of room
An outdoor area is what really appealed to the owners about a family property, writes Tessa Akerman.
ONE week after arriving from the UK, the Allisons found their dream home in Fairview Park. ‘‘It was the garden that really sold it to us and the configuration of the house,’’ Robert Allison says.
‘‘It basically has three bedrooms upstairs and then a little side annex which has its own bathroom, kitchen area and little lounge as well as a bedroom.
‘‘We often get visitors from the UK and they stay for months at a time rather than just overnight so it gives them privacy.’’
The downstairs of the house has an open-plan lounge and dining room, a meals and family area and the kitchen.
‘‘We put in a new kitchen within the past year and both bathrooms have been renovated as well,’’ Mr Allison says.
The house also has a new pergola with blinds and a saltwater chlorinated pool.
‘‘The pergola is large enough for a full-sized table out there and we have a wicker settee and a chair set,’’ he says.
‘‘It’s a nice size pool, that’s what sold us the house, the back area, and we’re hopeful that’s what will sell it to someone else.’’
The Allisons also have carried out small changes, such as covering up exposed brick to bring the house out of the 1970s style.
Mr Allison says the house would suit a young family who likes to do a bit of entertaining.
‘‘The house is pretty much set up for entertaining and there’s plenty of room outside for the kids to play around,’’ he says.
‘‘We have a three-year-old daughter and she loves it out there, splashing around the pool and in the shaded area as well.’’
