Live securely and in style in a gated community, writes Amy Noonan.

IT’S a serene and secure location in Kensington but it’s just minutes from the hustle and bustle of The Parade and Burnside Village.

Vendor Carol Ellin loves her Bridge St courtyard home so much she’d love to transport it to her new location interstate.

‘‘I absolutely love it. I wish I could pick it up and take it with me, it’s perfect,’’ Ms Ellin says.

She bought the home in a secure, gated community four years ago.

‘‘I was downsizing and I liked the location and the security aspects of it,’’ she says.

‘‘It’s small and it’s easy to maintain but there’s lots of natural light.’’

The home is decorated in neutral colours with easy-care tiled floors.

There is an open-plan living room and dining area that opens to a courtyard. The main bedroom also has sliding doors to the courtyard.

‘‘I built the courtyard myself. I took out a few tonnes of dirt,’’ Ms Ellin says. ‘‘The courtyard is nice and secluded and private. It’s a nice spot to have a coffee or a meal or entertain friends.’’

The Kensington location is unbeatable, Ms Ellin says. ‘‘It’s just really convenient to everything – close to the city and shops at Burnside and Norwood and there’s a bus down the end of the street,’’ she says.

She says the property would suit another downsizer or a first home buyer.

‘‘It’s a nice gated community. We meet for drinks at Christmas. We welcome new people and farewell others,’’ she says.
