Live with nature
A private location has the city on its doorstep, writes Giuseppe Tauriello.
SECLUSION and privacy were key considerations in the design of a Stirling home for Amber Laris and partner Lewis Smith. The couple designed their Scott St hideaway in a setting of wildlife and nature in a location close to the city. ‘‘To find that sort of seclusion in Stirling – that’s pretty excellent and it’s so quick down the hill to the city,’’ Ms Laris says.
‘‘There’s a great deal of privacy. From every window, you see bush. That was one of the appeals – the birdlife is fantastic up here.’’
The home, which is 12 months old, is set on a block of almost 2ha.
Ms Laris says much thought was put into the design, aiming to make the most of the views and to make the home adaptable.
‘‘The home was built by a local builder, a very small builder up here in the hills, and it was built to take in the views,’’ she says.
‘‘There are views from every room in the house, even from the bathroom.
‘‘When I designed the home, I designed it with the idea of working from home. The third bedroom could be easily made into a very large study or an office.’’
The three-bedroom home features Tasmanian oak floors throughout and has been fitted with modern furnishings and features.
Two bedrooms have built-in robes and there is an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area. The kitchen and meals area has access to the balcony and lounge room, which has a Danish-made slow combustion heater.
The kitchen is a strong feature of the home, says Address: 22 Scott St. Type: Architecturally-designed home set on almost 2ha. Land size: 1.919ha. ‘‘Even though the home is not an especially large place, it functions very easily.’’ Ms Laris says.
‘‘I think the home would suit people who really enjoy privacy and seclusion but also proximity – that’s very hard to find.
‘‘It’s not an off-the-shelf home.’’
