Typ­i­cal street fea­tures The streets of Gil­ber­ton com­prise his­toric, mod­est, sin­gle-storey cot­tages on small al­lot­ments with nar­row frontages ad­ja­cent the nar­row res­i­den­tial streets. The ex­cep­tions are the larger Vic­to­rian- era vil­las, bun­ga­lows and Tu­dor dwellings on the more spa­cious al­lot­ments with frontage to Walk­erville Tce, Park Tce and Stephen Tce. Lo­cal at­trac­tions A new shop­ping cen­tre has re­cently opened on Walk­erville Tce. There are a num­ber of parks in the area, in­clud­ing the Walk­erville Recre­ation Cen­tre and the Dun­stan Ad­ven­ture Play­ground. Grass ten­nis courts are lo­cated on Creswell Court, Gil­ber­ton. There is a YMCA on Smith St, and there is a fam­ily doc­tors’ prac­tice on Walk­erville Tce. Fu­ture de­vel­op­ment Due to the char­ac­ter na­ture of the area, the de­vel­op­ment plan spec­i­fies that ‘‘op­por­tu­ni­ties to in­crease the den­sity of hous­ing will be limited to the re­place­ment of non-con­trib­u­tory build­ings’’.
