Grape expectations with vintage style
A grand country home on a large 1ha block complete with its own shiraz vineyard is ideal for a family seeking outer space, writes Tom Bowden.
AGAWLER Belt home on a 1ha block with its own shiraz vineyard provided the perfect transition from a 16,187ha station for vendors Mary and Ian Clark. The couple bought the home four years ago and Mrs Clark says the retirees wanted a block big enough that they didn’t feel hemmed in.
‘‘We love it, but we think now, with us getting a bit older, that it is just time to downsize,’’ she says.
The couple renovated the home extensively, including installing a new kitchen, new hot water system, solar panels, new electrics and irrigation.
‘‘We’ve done everything we could possibly think to it,’’ Mrs Clark says.
The kitchen offers a view over the back garden and has 18 soft-closing draws that are almost 1m wide, an island bench and stainless steel oven and gas cooktop. ‘‘It’s a dream to prepare food in and everybody tends to congregate in it and it’s a magic place and leads so well into the dining room,’’ Mrs Clark says.
The home has four bedrooms, the master with a walk-in robe and the other three with built-ins.
The ensuite has a corner spa bath, toilet, shower with glass screen and a double vanity. The main three-way bathroom has a double vanity, feature mirror, spa bath and ample storage.
There’s also a separate teenager’s retreat with an open-plan lounge/ dining/kitchen area and a bedroom.
This room also has a separate bathroom with shower.
‘‘It’s such a welcoming home and it makes everyone feel very comfortable from the moment you put your foot in the door,’’ Mrs Clark says.
‘‘It might be the long drive and the approach, it’s a very impressive home and I’ll miss that part of it and it’s just so lovely and cosy inside.
‘‘It has a huge veranda which is ideal for entertaining and out of nearly every window there’s a gorgeous view wherever you look.’’
Mrs Clark says the home would suit a range of buyers and could also be a good family home.
‘‘We’re three minutes from Coles in Gawler, 30 minutes from Gepps Cross, and 25 minutes from Tanunda,’’ Mrs Clark says.
‘‘When we move we will be looking for something in the immediate vicinity because we love the area.’’
