Backyard space and high ceilings
An open-plan kitchen and a covered entertaining area are social focal points, writes Tom Dougherty.
AHAWTHORN home was attractive to vendor John Skoblyk due to the amount of space and the potential for entertaining in the backyard.
‘‘I liked the spaciousness, the high ceilings, the beautiful kitchen, and the outdoor entertaining area,’’ he says.
‘‘We added on a veranda at the back in 2007 virtually straight after we moved in.’’
At the back of the home on the ground floor is an open-plan kitchen, living and dining room.
The kitchen features granite benches and Bosch stainless steel appliances.
‘‘It is a very versatile kitchen, it has a lot of open space, plenty of room for the chef,’’ he says.
‘‘It is beautiful for entertaining, sitting around the kitchen having a glass of wine or going outside, there are lots of places to relax.’’
A glass sliding door in the living room opens out to the covered entertaining area at the back. Also on the ground floor is a laundry with external access, a powder room with a toilet, and a storeroom under the staircase.
The three bedrooms are located on the top floor, with the master at the front.
It features a walk-in robe, an ensuite with a shower, and french doors that open out to a private balcony.
‘‘It is quite generous in size, in fact all of the bedrooms are a good size,’’ he says.
The other two bedrooms have ceiling fans and built-in robes. Also on the top floor is a bathroom, which has a bath and a shower.
‘‘All of the gardens have drip sprinklers throughout, and timer taps, so you just set it and forget about it,’’ Mr Skoblyk says. The home also has a double garage with an automatic panel-lift door, and a roller door providing drivethrough access to the backyard.
Located at Hawthorn, the home is close to Kingswood Oval and Hawthorn Oval.
‘‘There is the Mitcham Shopping Centre nearby and the Mitcham cinemas, and it is about four or five kilometres to the city,’’ he says.
