Hills life a real breeze
Find peace in the hills, writes Tom Dougherty.
ADOUBLE-STOREY modern home at Flagstaff Hill is peaceful and ideal for a family, vendor John Burns says. ‘‘We liked the size, it was the first house we bought since coming from the UK, it is the same sort of size we had in the UK before we emigrated,’’ he says.
‘‘It’s been lovely, it’s nice and rural with the trees and surrounding green fields and things like that.
‘‘You are up in the hills and the gully breeze comes through up there.’’
The home has five bedrooms, with the master located on the top floor.
It has a walk-in robe and an ensuite with a double vanity and a shower.
There are three more bedrooms upstairs, and two of them have builtin robes.
They are serviced by a bathroom, which has a bath and a shower.
Also on the top floor is a family room, which has a void that looks down to the lower level, and a balcony.
Most of the lower level is taken up by an open-plan kitchen, lounge and dining room.
The kitchen features a pantry, an island bench with a breakfast bar, wooden cupboards, and stainless steel appliances.
‘‘It’s a Farquhar kitchen, it was all made-to-measure and fitted in, it’s been a good kitchen, very userfriendly,’’ Mr Burns says. ‘‘It has loads of storage.’’ Also on the ground floor is a study, which could be used as a fifth bedroom if required.
A sliding door in the dining room opens out to a paved entertaining area.
It looks on to an inground pool and a low maintenance garden.
‘‘It is great for entertaining, really good; we have had a marquee on the back for big birthday parties,’’ he says.
‘‘And the kitchen and dining area is a huge space in which people can have drinks and a chat.’’
Other features of the home include ducted heated and cooling, a ducted vacuum system, a security system and an automatic irrigation system.
‘‘It would suit a family with two or three kids, it would be a nice place to grow up,’’ he says.
