Lifestyle villa on Esplanade
Enjoy a holiday lifestyle near the beach, writes Tom Dougherty.
ABAY window villa on the Esplanade at Semaphore maximises the view of the ocean, vendor Paul Beard says. ‘‘For us it was a bit of a sea change, moving to the beach and having a holiday lifestyle,’’ he says. ‘‘This property is on an elevated corner block with about a 13m frontage and a 1400sq m block, what attracted us to it was we felt like we had a commanding view of the ocean.’’
The property has up to four bedrooms, with the master located at the back.
It has a walk-in robe and an ensuite with a shower. Two of the other bedrooms have fireplaces. The open-plan kitchen, living and dining area with a bay window is located at the front of the home.
‘‘Years ago it was a boarding house or a bed and breakfast...it had fallen into a bit of a state of neglect and we totally renovated it when we bought it, we wanted to bring it back to its original grandeur,’’ he says. ‘‘One of the things that is quite unique is that it has a lot of big windows out to the beach, it has 3m-high windows where there is a 4m-high ceiling all around the front of the house.’’
The kitchen has an island bench, a dishwasher, a breakfast bar, and a pantry.
The dining area looks out to an outdoor entertaining deck covered by a shade sail.
‘‘A lot of the older houses were orientated with the living areas at the back, when we were renovating it, we were able to bring the living area to the front of the house, taking advantage of the ocean views,’’ Mr Beard says.
The property also has a formal loungeroom, and a bathroom with a bath and a shower, a third toilet and a cellar underneath.
In the backyard of the home and detached from the main building is a teenagers’ retreat, which has a bedroom, and a bathroom with a bath.
There is a lawn area in the backyard, and there is also a tennis court that also has a basketball and a netball ring.
