Open-plan space saver
Design and location are a winning combination, writes Tom Bowden.
AScott Salisbury home with large rooms attracted Michael John and Mandy Miller to a Grange home when they moved here from England six years ago. ‘‘We were quite impressed by it when we saw it from the outside and when we went inside we were even more impressed,’’ Mr John says.
‘‘We were looking for decent-sized rooms and good storage in a nice suburb, and we really liked this area because it’s a nice quiet street and it’s close to the sea.
‘‘It’s about a 10-minute walk to the beach, we’ve got a Foodland just up the road and there’s everything you could want nearby.’’
The home features three double bedrooms, all on the top floor, and the master has an attached walk-in robe and ensuite.
The bottom floor features a loungeroom, study, a bathroom, a Farquhar kitchen and an open-plan living and dining area.
‘‘We were amazed at how well-designed it was and we love the big open-plan area because it’s got a separate lounge at the front if you want to be a bit more cosy,’’ Mr John says. ‘‘The open-plan living suits us well because you can be in the kitchen cooking and having a chat with guests or watching TV while you prepare meals; it just works really well.’’
Outside there is a paved, covered entertaining area and a low-maintenance, landscaped garden.
‘‘It’s great for entertaining and we’ve had plenty of gatherings here and we’ll be very sad to leave here,’’ Mr John says. ‘‘We’re just looking for a place with a bigger backyard because I’m a builder and we’ve got quite a few hobbies.’’
The home has a lockup double garage with internal access, reverse-cycle airconditioning, a rainwater tank, an alarm system and solar panels.
Mr John says the home’s location and layout would suit a range of buyers. ‘‘It would suit a professional couple or it would also be great for families because it is close to the beach and there are plenty of good schools around,’’ Mr John says.
