WHEN Jacqui and Steve Mason first fell in love with their friend’s North Adelaide home more than 20 years ago, they never dreamt that they would own it many years later.

‘‘We came here over 20 years ago and it was just love at first sight and we knew as soon as we walked in that we loved it but never dreamt that we would return to South Australia to own it,’’ Ms Mason says.

‘‘The previous owner had worked with Steve at Coca Cola many years ago and we were over here on a visit from Hong Kong and we came here for dinner.

‘‘It was amazing to buy it all those years later - we were in Sydney at the time, we’d just left Hong Kong and we came over for a visit and we saw it on the market and that was it.

‘‘It was a wonderful home with a wonderful feeling about it, and I tend to always buy houses on how we feel when we walk in the door and it just has a lovely feel about it and that was the decisionmaker to come back to Adelaide.’’

The home was originally built for the wife of George Aldridge, a past chairman of the Adelaide Stock Exchange and was also owned by Hannibal Bonython.

Ms Mason says each owner has left their own mark on the building and that she and her husband have renovated the downstairs living area, the master suite and ensuite to the highest standard.

‘‘Each person has lived in this house has put some of their own mark on it and, for instance, when Hannibal Bonython had it it was all Art Deco styled and we like to feel we’ve put our own mark on it,’’ Ms Mason says.

‘‘The dining room was separate from the living room so we’ve opened that out so that that all flows through straight out the back and it’s now a great room for entertaining.’’ The home features four bedrooms, the master suite with a his-andhers dressing room and a new ensuite.

‘‘We’ve taken a wall down between one of the bedrooms and we’ve extended that so you’ve got a huge grand master suite now,’’ Ms Mason says.

‘‘We had 10 people staying over at Christmas, and that worked perfectly.’’

The galley kitchen features stainless steel appliances including an oven, gas cooktop, rangehood and dishwasher and plenty of cupboard space.

‘‘Outside, it has a lovely large courtyard with a Tuscan-style wall and it’s been wonderful for outside entertaining, and there’s enough room there if someone wants to put in a lap pool,’’ Mrs Mason says.

‘‘It’s a very calming and peaceful house to be in and everybody that comes through the door says that.’’

The home has ample storage throughout, Ms Mason says, and would suit either a family or a couple looking to host visiting family or friends.

Ms Mason says the location of the property was to-die-for.
