Anna Vlach highlights coats to keep you ethically warm this winter.
There’s nothing warm and fuzzy about animal cruelty, so get real about fur and make sure you’re only wearing the fake kind. Made from synthetic fibres which are just as warm as the real thing, faux fur is in again this autumn/winter. Yes, you can go with a “natural” looking faux fur, but that’s a bit beige. Australian luxury brand Unreal Fur, stocked by College Park boutique Elle & Elka, has vests and jackets in unreal colours like pink, peach and green.
Or why not go really wild and run with a leopard faux fur. One of the limited-edition pieces in a collaboration between South Australian artist Dana Kinter and Gorman, the Animalia jacket is purr-fect for everyday. Karen Walker’s Gato dress in “crazy cat velour” is for when you’re on the prowl. Wear it with this season’s must-have shoe – the kitten heel.
If you’re a less-is-more kind of girl, Review’s Marian coat in peacock blue has a detachable fur collar. Last but by no means least, Alannah Hill’s A Trifling Matter cute cropped faux fur jacket comes in classic black and the sweetest shade of candy pink.
