BRAVE Zoe Iliopoulos and her family are real-life superheroes, brushing aside their own woes to help raise cash for sick kids.

Experiencing first hand the harrowing ordeal of daughter Zoe, 3, undergoing open heart surgery, Arthur and his wife Doreen want to help others going through the same pain.

Mr Iliopoulos is taking part in HeartKids Super Boss Day, wearing his Superman costume to work at Drakes Supermarkets to help raise $500,000 nationally.

“It’s my chance now to mentor my daughter and Leo, her brother, on the importance of giving back,” he said.

It’s been a long road for the now three-year-old, who had her first open heart surgery last year to correct problems caused by congenital heart disease – the leading cause of death in infants in Australia.

The HeartKids program, Family Coping, is a five-week course to help families deal with the challenges they face having a child with Congenital Heart Disease.

HeartKids SA/NT state manager Tania Potts said they heavily relied on donations to fund their programs.
