Wise up

The Advertiser - - LETTERS -

GOVERNMENT authorities rightly aspire towards giving the highest priority to child safety ( The Advertiser, yesterday). But worthy legal requirements and church policy should never disagree when church and state operate under the wisdom and justice of God.

Government should set the highest legal standards, while church leaders should point out to congregations that penitential statements will be heard under the following precondition: Any criminal behaviour that is confessed shall immediately be reported personally by the pastor to the police – either alone, or (ideally) accompanied by the penitent themselves.
