Maddest of Sundays for Tigers

THE Mid-North transformed into Tigerland yesterday as football and netball players from Brinkworth, Spalding and Redhill celebrated winning four premierships in a single day.

The BSR Tigers’ A and B grade football teams each won back-to-back premierships while the Tigers A-1 netball team won its first premiership since 1995.

It followed a one-goal loss in last year’s grand final.

Club vice president Shane Weckert said it had been a busy but successful day for the club.

“The netball girls celebrated the hardest,” Mr Weckert said.

“They went nuts after the game. It was pretty special for them winning this year after losing last year by a single point.”

The Tigers C-2 netball team also won but the A-2 side was not as lucky, losing by four goals to North Clare.

The Tigers A-grade foot- ball team beat Blyth-Snowtown 58-31, while the BGrade side beat the BurraBooborowie-Hallett side 7527.

Players from all the Tigers teams celebrated together on Sunday.

In the South-East, an- other tiny town with a strong football heritage returned to the winner’s circle as Mundulla won its first premiership since 2004.

Mundulla won through from the elimination final to beat favourites Keith by three points in the grand final of the Kowree-Naracoorte-Tatiara League.

It was a return to form for the Mundulla team which won nine premierships in 11 years and a mindbending seven flags in a row starting in 1994.

In the Adelaide Plains Football League Two Wells went back-to-back, defeating Balaklava by 20 points.

In the Hills League Ironbank broke an 18-year premiership drought, downing Kersbrook in a dominant 28 point win.

In the SANFL preliminary final at Adelaide Oval, yesterday, North Adelaide staged an extraordinary comeback to win by five points, after earlier trailing Woodville-West Torrens by 47 points.
