Lawyer holds on to Libs’ purse strings
THE embattled eastern suburbs lawyer in charge of the Liberal Party’s finances has been re-elected for another 12month stint despite concerns about his business dealings.
John Kain, 51, has faced questions over his chairman- ship of besieged fund manager Blue Sky Alternative Investment. But Mr Kain, the founder of Kain Lawyers, will continue controlling party coffers.
Its state executive last week unanimously voted the widely respected lawyer, of Toorak Gardens, to continue as its voluntary state treasurer.
Liberal sources have said frustrated party “chatter” centred on the “optics” his potential business problems pose before next year’s Federal Election. Mr Kain declined to comment.
