THE Ellenbrook Eels Senior Football Club is set for another strong season ahead of its first game next month with new coach, former AFL player Justin Wood.

The league side was knocked out in the preliminary finals last season and, according to president Andrew Coxall, there is a sense of “unfinished business” around the club.

Coxall said it was the fourth year the team had finished third and this year it was determined to make the grand final.

He said during preseason training he had seen the best numbers on the track since he started with the club about five years ago.

“We’ve got a lot of kids coming from Ellenbrook Dockers Club, which is really exciting to see and what the next few years will bring with them coming through the ranks,” he said.

The 2017 season will see the return of Founders Medallist Logan Ashby and his twin brother Daniel, who was returning from the WAFL.

“The ones to watch will be Logan. He is training really well and is looking forward to another big year,” Coxall said.

“Daniel has returned from East Perth and will also be a key player.

“James Kendall was the leading goal scorer last year with 95 goals, and hopefully he will help take us to the next step this year.”

Coxall said the team was hoping to take the next step this year and make it to the grand final and ultimately go up a grade.

The teams to watch this season would be Piara Waters, Belmont and Cottesloe.

“We’ve got a new coach in Justin Wood, who is a former AFL and WAFL player and he has coached at an A grade level, so he brings with him a lot of experience and (will) help take the club forward,” he said.

The team will take on St Norbert’s Ex-Students Association Football Club in an away game for its first game of the season on April 8, before its first home game and largest game of the year on April 22 for Anzac Day.
