Dust up over clay bid

The Advocate (Perth) - - NEWS -

UPPER Swan residents have raised concerns with the City of Swan over a proposal to extract clay off Apple Street.

The proposal, which will be voted on at tonight’s Council meeting , is seeking approval to extract clay two weeks a year at the site due to a demand for the resource.

Resident Ann Winchester said the area was losing its identity through ongoing extractive work in the area and plans for a high-density residential subdivision.

She said some of the concerns were traffic management, noise and dust.

“We have grave concerns for dust, which will emanate from the site,” she said.

“We have no faith that this will be a twoweek excavation period and that the hours of operation will be between 7am and 5.30pm.”

She said approving this project would only further reduce the rural outlook of the area and impact current residents.

The proposal received four submissions, all objecting to the proposal.
