HUNDREDS of cyclists took part in Bike in the Valley on Sunday to celebrate its 21st anniversary in the Swan Valley.

About 370 riders took part in the event, which had a 9km, 23km and 34km ride, with riders of all ages taking part.

City of Swan Mayor Mick Wainwright was at the event operating the sausage sizzle, while Cr Rod Henderson took part in the ride. Cr Wainwright said it was great to see so many people take part in Bike in the Valley.

“It was great to be part of Bike in the Valley again this year, particularly as it marked the event’s 21st birthday. It was a great day and I was pleased to see such a good turnout,” he said.

“We had participants of all ages from little ones on bike seats and bike trailers to 80 years and over.”

Cr Wainwright said he was impressed by one of the smallest participants.

“One of our littlest participants was a five-yearold who’d just started riding without his training wheels, and he rode nine kilometres – such a great effort,” he said.

“I would like to thank all of those who took part, the event marshals and everyone who helped to hold and run the event. It was enjoyed by all.”
