Du Pont on point
Ellenbrook teen wins art award.
ELLENBROOK teenager Sahara Du Pont has won the Jessica Shaw Youth Award at the Ellenbrook Art Awards.
The 17-year-old was among 149 other artists who entered art work for the awards, which were held last week.
More than 200 people attended the awards night and the opening of the exhibition, which will showcase all of the nominated artwork.
Ellenbrook Arts executive director Matt Sivyer said the night was a huge success and showcased so much of the talent in WA.
“There is something quite special being surrounded by artworks, which collectively represent thousands of hours of labour,” he said. “Behind each artwork lies a story and when I was collating these for the online catalogue on our website, I was blown away by some of the tales of inspiration, love and loss.”
Artists entered work in four categories for youth, painting, photography and mixed media, as well as the City of Swan prize, which was awarded to Guundie Kuchling for B is for Bibliophilic and Most Outstanding Work, which was awarded to Jodie Ellis for Care taker.
Du Pont won for her work Treasures, which she also sold on the night.
Mr Sivyer said it was quite the profitable night for a teenager, receiving a prize cheque, as well as selling the work. The exhibition is on until October 8 at Ellenbrook Arts.
