Dust-up over road works

The Advocate (Perth) - - FRONT PAGE -

ELLENBROOK residents say their properties have been damaged as a result of clearing for the Northlink WA project.

Resident Damien Dickenson’s property backs on to the project and said his home had been inundated with dust since the project started.

He said he had also had cracks form in his ceiling since clearing began.

“For me the dust has been unbearable,” he said.

“Even through closed windows and doors the dust will get through the tiny cracks and covers everything in thick black dirt.”

Mr Dickenson said he had his house surveyed before the works started and since clearing had taken place there had been damage to his ceiling.

He said he knew when he bought the property that Northlink was going ahead but was never told the land would be cleared right up to his fence.

“The access road is right behind our back fence,” he said.

Kim Nguyen said he had also experienced dust throughout his house and was concerned once construction began to build the road the problem would only worsen.

“They haven’t even started the works yet. I can’t imagine it will get better,” he said.

A Main Roads WA spokeswoman said Northlink WA had received a number of dust complaints.

“Residents are encouraged to contact contractor Northlink WA central section, Great Northern Connect,” she said.

“They are encouraged to talk through their issues and concerns.”
