ELLENBROOK RSL sub branch held a special event last week as part of Veterans’ Health Week.

The sub branch invited veterans from Ellenbrook and surrounding areas to to get advice and information from a number of medical professionals.

Veterans Issues Minister Peter Tinley attended the event and highlighted the tragic problem of post-traumatic stress disorder for members of the armed forces.

He said Veterans’ Health Week was an opportunity to focus on some of the specific difficulties faced by many serving and former members of the armed forces.

“Individuals in other parts of our society are also affected by this terrible problem, but research figures indicate PTSD among veterans is much higher per capita than other sectors of the community,” he said.

Frank Mallard, from the Ellenbrook RSL sub branch, said the event was a success, with many veterans finding out vital information.

“The event was very well received and people said they found out things they were entitled to, which they didn’t previously know.
