DREAM HOME FIRE-RESISTANT SPECIAL MODULES USED IN DESIGN
COUPLE Ian and Catherine Milliner are building their dream home on a 3.75ha block at Avon Ridge.
It was custom designed by West Leederville-based firm Collaborative Design to blend in with Brigadoon’s natural surroundings and is being built using innovative materials to help protect the house in the event of a bushfire.
The residence comprises modules with simple roof forms linked by a series of decks and covered walkways.
Each module forms a different part of the house.
Four of the five modules were pre-fabricated off site, trucked into position and are being linked with external decks or enclosed concrete floors.
These modules were constructed using cladding materials with a two-hour fire rating and non-combustible floors, windows and roofs.
The fifth module, which is the garage and workshop, has been made using concrete wall panels to create a completely fireproof building that will also serve as a safe refuge should the family be unable to escape a bushfire on their property.
The contemporary home is elevated and provides uninterrupted views across the external deck and cleverly located lap pool to the bushland of the national park on the property’s northern boundary.
Mrs Milliner said they loved the physical nature of the land and were making the most of the view with the expansive 160sq m deck.
In the Darling Ranges, Avon Ridge offers stunning views of Bells Rapids and features a beautiful park with barbecues, paths, plus grassed and shaded picnic areas.
Established schools, retail centres, restaurants and sporting and medical facilities are close by.
If a home at Avon Ridge appeals, Peet is offering savings up to $50,000 until November 26 on selected blocks from 1.5ha to 4.6ha.
