Bench a tower of power

ELLENBROOK Shopping Centre has unveiled an award-winning solar-powered seat designed for customers to ensure their electronic devices are always charged and ready to go.

The seat, Steora Smart Bench is a solar-powered seat which collects and stores energy from the sun and transfers it to mobile phones and tablets, the first of its kind to be installed in an Australian shopping centre.

Vicinity Shopping Centres executive general manager Justin Mills said the Smart Bench was the first product of its kind to be installed in a retail centre environment nationally.

The revolutionary bench can collect and store up to 100 watts of electricity every hour, enough energy to power a mobile device for a week, even if the sun is not shining.

WA regional general manager Richard Terhorst said the smart bench was an internationally recognised innovation.

“We know our customers love to stay connected while visiting our centres and the Smart Bench helps to make this possible,” he said.
