Scorchers come to Swan Valley
CITY TO HOST TWO MATCHES
THE City of Swan has partnered with the Perth Scorchers to bring another series of the explosive Women’s Big Bash League matches to the Swan Valley.
The City will host two matches this month at Lilac Hill Park in Caversham on January 7 and January 21.
City of Swan Deputy Mayor Kevin Bailey said the City was excited to be able to host the matches once again.
“The last series attracted close to 5000 spectators over three days, which is an excellent turn-out and we are expecting this round to be even bigger,” he said.
“I am very pleased that the City, the Midland-Guildford Cricket Club and the WACA have developed a strong partnership and have come together to deliver this unique and engaging sporting event to the community.”
Local Midland-Guildford Cricket Club and Test player Elyse Villani has been selected as the Scorchers captain and will lead the team in front of her home crowd.
She will be supported by a huge line-up including vice-captain Nicole Bolton, Meg Lanning, British imports Natalie Sciver and Katherine Brunt and New Zealand’s Thamsyn Newton.
The first match of three took place over the weekend against the Sydney Sixers, who they lost to in last season’s final.
The team will take on Sydney Thunder on January 7, before facing the Hobart Hurricanes on January 21.
The event will also include free kids entertainment and a pop-up bar and eatery.
