Have say on Valley plans

COMMENT SOUGHT ON REVIEW

The Advocate (Perth) - - WHAT'S ON -

AN independent review of the Swan Valley planning framework is now out for public comment.

The review by former Labor politician John Kobelke started in 2017, with views sought on matters affecting the future of the Swan Valley.

The review involved more than 50 face-to-face interviews and a survey completed by more than a third of the Swan Valley community, reflecting the importance of future planning.

The review recommended maintaining a balance between agriculture and tourism in the region, establishing a single body to guide planning and future development guidelines.

Planning Minister Rita Saffioti said the review investigated issues close to the heart of the community.

“The previous government failed to recognise the key issues in their Swan Valley plan and did not address matters important to the future viability of the Swan Valley as a viticultural region and a key tourism destination,” she said.

“These issues include the right to farm provisions and the allocation of water.

“I look forward to considering views received on the recommendations for the future land use planning of this diverse region.”

Ms Saffioti will present the State Government’s response to the report by September 30.
