Students celebrate diversity as part of Refugee Week.

SWAN Valley Anglican Community School celebrated Refugee Week last week and the valuable contributions refugees bring to society.

The school supported the Refugee Council of Australia’s theme for this year #WithRefugees, which links to the school’s core values of compassion, faith, integrity and service.

To celebrate the week, students participated in a range of activities including poetry, making friendship bracelets, sporting events and watching a documentary.

Head of humanities and social sciences Rebekah Overton said students heard from guest speakers from the Shout Out organisation. “Refugee Week has continued to broaden the minds within the school community,” she said.

“Many of the items made will be delivered to the Refugee Centre as a means of welcoming people to Perth.”

Swan Valley Anglican Community Schools students Gladys Kenyi, Aweet Tier, guest speaker from Shout Out Amran Abdi, Georgia Corneli and Charlie Prodrick.
