Accidental counsellor training
HUMAN Connections provides mental health and wellbeing courses and resources to teachers, students, and parents; both online and in face-to-face workshops.
The Accidental Counsellor Training for school staff is held across Australia and New Zealand, with more than 5000 school staff attending in the past 10 years to rave reviews.
The Accidental Counsellor Training is for school staff who are not trained as professional counsellors, but are often ‘the front line’ in responding to the emotional needs of students and parents in schools. The Accidental Counsellor Training will:
• Help you feel more confident and certain in how to best respond to the emotional needs of the person you are supporting.
• Increase and enhance your own wellbeing and self-care.
• Provide “Solution Focused” communication and questions to help the person discover “their next best step”.
“As Deputy Principal of a large primary school, I am often faced with situations where I need to provide guidance and support for students. Having recently completed the course, I have already used many of the strategies back at school and now feel more confident and well-equipped to deal with student issues,” Grafton Public School Deputy Principal Leigh Robertson said.
“The course was practical, action-packed and opened my mind to the many ways we can speak with and support students.
“I now feel better-equipped to manage the ‘difficult conversations’ when my school counsellor isn’t on site. The added bonus is that many of the strategies will prove effective in my personal life as well.”
Along with the Accidental Counsellor Training we provide wellbeing sessions to students in both primary and high school.
