The Australian Energy Review - - NEWS -

AUSTRALIA has officially joined global research group the Generation IV International Forum (GIF) Framework Agreement to assist in the development and design of the next generation of nuclear energy systems.

Australian researchers will work alongside countries such as France, China, Japan and the US to develop systems that produce less waste, use fuel more efficiently and meet stringent safety demands.

Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) chief executive Dr Adi Paterson said while nuclear energy was not currently part of the Australian energy mix, it had significant local expertise.
