R. JOHN ANDERSON
Harley-Davidson board member, former president and chief executive of Levi Strauss & Co. Anderson, now 61, gained his commerce degree (economics and marketing) from the University of NSW (1969). First job was salesman with H. J. Heinz. Joined Levi Strauss in 1979 as a product manager in Australia, then worked in Europe with Levi’s brand. Was president of Asia- Pacific division, also headed Levi Strauss in Canada and Latin America, before becoming chief operating officer in July 2006 and then chief executive in November that year. Describes himself as “competitive”, names decision to enter China in 2002 and maintain presence in India as best business moves. Retired from Levi Strauss in September 2011. Joined the board of iconic US motorcycle manufacturer Harley- Davidson in October 2010.
